Once in a while a bright light shines over the music scene that fills onlookers with a New Hope. It is the light of imminent stardom that is causing much excitement among the fans of remarkable young singer Alice Jayne. Her album ‘Inside The Cover’ just released on Rollin’ Records, is a testament to her talents as an artist who has captured the spirit of music in all its rich glory.
Blues, soul and rockabilly are embraced by Ms. Jayne with infectious passion, authenticity and stylish flair. Backed by energy fuelled musicians, including guitarist Andy Wren and deep bass man Wayne Hopkins, Alice soars through a collection of ten dynamic performance that should bring her to a much wider audience.
Among the highlights are ‘Crazy,’ whose echoing rhythms conjure images of ranchers galloping across the Western plains. And the vocal intensity unleashed on the rockin’ ‘One Good Reason,’ is enough to inflame the entire population of Texas, not to mention East Croydon.
Watch out for two versions of Dylan’s ‘I Want You’, possibly the best ‘cover’ of ‘Dimples’ since Stevie Winwood, and a truly remarkable ‘Poor Black Mattie’ with some marvellous harmonica blowin’ courtesy of Adam Burney.
